Из Канады на машине (ну, там понятно), с Карибов, из Мексики, из Израиля.
Паспорт ни разу даже не спросили.
Я был уверен, что это такие правила и для въезда в США достаточно ГЦ.

Passport required; or
- if stay outside U.S.A. was more than 1 year: re-entry
permit issued by U.S. authorities viz. Permit to Re-enter
the United States" required. The document has the same size
as the U.S. passport; or
- if stay outside U.S.A. was less than 1 year: Permanent
Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551).
Visa not required, provided holding:
1.- Valid Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551),
provided stay outside U.S.A. has not exceeded 1 year (to
be determined by Immigration Inspector upon arrival); or
2.- An expired Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form
I-551) with a 10-year expiration, acceptable only if the
alien has not been absent from the U.S.A. more than 180
This exemption does not apply to Conditional Residents
holding I-551's with 2-year expiration. In addition to
the 2-year expiration, these cards are identified by the
Category Code "CR(numeral)". Generally the numerals are
1, 2 or 6. The Category field is to the right of the
birthdate field on the front of the I-551.
Conditional Residents can be boarded with an expired
I-551 if holding a I-797 Notice of Action extending the
card for an additional year.
Expired Form I-551 is also accepted if holding:
a) a Transportation Letter issued by a United States
Consular or Immigration officer;
b) a civilian or military official travel order issued
by the United States Government;
c) or is included as dependent spouse or child on the
civilian or military official travel order issued to
the alien's spouse or parent by the U.S. Government.
3.- Re-entry permit (same size as a U.S. passport) issued by
U.S. Government reading "Permit to Re-enter the United
States" for those whose stay outside the U.S.A. exceeded
1 year; or
4.- Form I-797 together with Letter of Transportation issued
by U.S. authorities or U.S. embassies/consulates.
- Alien Registration Receipt Card Form I-151 has been
replaced by Form I-551 and is no longer valid for travel.
Passenger is required to apply for a new I-551 (which
includes an application fee) and may experience delay in

"processed for I-551 temporary evidence of lawful
admittance for permanent residence valid until receipt of
I-551 employment authorized", such a stamp is considered
to be Form I-551.
